Blood. Sweat. Tears. In the world of athletics, these three little words are the epitome of being an athlete. These words are written on the walls of many gyms, weight rooms, and posted on the inside of athlete 's lockers across the world. These words are related to sports such as volleyball, basketball, football, and soccer, just to name a few. CrossFit is changing the world perception of athleticism, and what it means to be an athlete. Also, it is redefining what is considered a sport. Even though CrossFit is changing the perception of fitness, blood, sweat, and tears is a universally understood motto throughout the culture.

A sport is considered any activity involving physical exertion and skill where an individual or team competes against others, usually for entertainment. The annual CrossFit Games is a worldwide competition sponsored by Crossfit Inc. held every summer since 2007. There are team and individual competitions. When CrossFit first became the new fad overnight much like the paleo diet, it was expected to fade soon after. It never did. There has been much heated discussion as to if CrossFit is a sport or not. Words such as cult and brainwashing have been thrown around often when referencing to CrossFit. It is referred to as a cult almost as much as it is referred to as a sport, maybe more. People integrated with the fitness regimen call it a tight-knit community or a second home. The major reason people call CrossFit a cult is that the number one rule of CrossFit is to talk about CrossFit. The Boxes encourage a very tight-knit community and a supporting environment where everyone in the class is cheering each other on. CrossFit also has a very aggressive nature and demeanor. Dan Carson, from beacherreport.com wrote a scathing review "10 Reasons Why CrossFit Isn 't a Sport". He claimed there were no fans, no accountability, no uniform, it was a dating service, it is all marketing, and there is no one to look up to. CrossFitters took to the comment section to correct Carson on his article. Even though he had some valid points, they were extremely biased.
It is up to one 's own opinion whether or not CrossFit is a sport or not. It cannot be denied that CrossFit is technically a sport, just a different perception of the typical "sport". It has completely redefined what is known as fitness
