On November 29, 2016 our class went on the field trip to Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) located at 74 Victoria Street in downtown of Toronto. The hearing was scheduled in the morning from 8:45am to 1:00pm. It was a spousal sponsorship appeal case where the applicant got rejected from the visa officer in Israel because the officer did not believe that it was a bona fide relationship. The sponsor and applicant had both Russian backgrounds. The sponsor was a Russian man who owned dual citizenship of Canada and Israel. The applicant is a citizen of Israel. This was sponsor’s second marriage and third marriage for the applicant.
Previous Marriage and Family
The sponsor initially came to Canada in April 19, 1979. He met his first wife in New York and eventually got married and then he sponsored her to move to Canada in 1980. They had two male children who were born 1982 and 1985. The sponsor stayed with his wife until 2011 and he moved out to his friend’s house. He lived with his friend about 4 years 2 months and then he purchased condominium where he still lives today. The sponsor had early retirement when he was 55 years old. Therefore, during the day he occupies himself by going to the gym and watche movies. The marriage actually broke even before he left his wife, the marriage was already cold about 8 to 10 years prior to 2011. They often had argument and they were unable to understand each other. How come sponsor did not discuss or reveal his relationship with the applicant to his family (two sons)?
Sponsor has retired, how was he paying for the rent in Israel and how is he going to financially support the applicant?
The sponsor previously sponsored his first wife, but how come he did not indicate it on the application
