Abstract Among all the applications of image recognition, maybe the technology of image detection, editing and beautification is the most popular and closest to our daily life. Here we would study a start-up company called Lightricks to understand its success story, unique technology and future implications. Then we would suggest future technology applications which may create a complementary market the one that Lightricks operate in. Namely, we will suggest ways to detect image manipulations in automatic ways. We expect this technology, if realized, will have important applications in dating sites, forensics and social awareness movements.

Last year, the 30-employee company took a $10 million venture investment from Israeli firm Carmel Ventures so they can hire more people, build more new products, and grow faster. Actually, the ambitious management team is shooting for a big exit, perhaps an acquisition by Apple or Facebook, because their two unique and valuable bits of technology far beyond its popular apps: first is the graphics engine that helps cameras work better, which attract Apple’s attention, the other one is mobile advertising software used only by themselves, that helps them stay in the best-selling lists, which amazed Facebook a lot.
