“In iPad We Trust”
Imagine using an iPad to save someone’s life. This is exactly what happened to Dr. Nalini Chilkov when her friend, who lived across the continent, Skyped her on his iPad. Suddenly, a medical emergency unfolded right in front of her eyes, on her iPad screen. She discovered that her old and worn friend was not in good health, and his condition was deteriorating over the past few days. As a skilled physician, Dr. Chilkov realized that her friend was experiencing life-threatening congestive heart failure, and her breath caught as she realized he could die at any moment. Quickly, Dr. Chilkov urged him to go to the doctor and when her friend was in safe hands felt relieved and uplifted about what she did. “I would say that Skype and an iPad were responsible for saving a life,” she announced proudly (Chilkov). The Apple iPad, introduced by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, has affected the way of life in America through many different aspects.
Apple Company Incorporated was founded on April 1, 1976. Apple was established by Steve Jobs, the renowned CEO, and Steve Wozniak. Both Jobs and Wozniak dropped out during their first year of college. Together, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak sought to create computers that would be small enough to be placed in households and workplaces. Furthermore, they wanted a “user-friendly” computer - effortless to carry and comfortable to use. The first Apple product was built in Job’s garage. After the first Apple computer was sold, Apple’s sales jumped to $7.8 million in 1978. Swiftly after, sales bounced to $117 million in 1980. The first Apple computers were a success in the United States. Wozniak left the company in 1983, making this a solo mission for Jobs. Not backing down, Jobs completed a deal with Adobe, a small company and the creator of the PDF (Portable Document Format). Together, Jobs and Adobe introduced desktop publishing. A personal laptop known as an iBook was introduced by Jobs.Shortly after, MP3players, more commonly known as iPods, were announced. A few years later, the media player software, iTunes, was presented. In June of 2007, the iPhone and Apple TV were created, making Apple increasingly popular (Richardson). Finally, in January of 2010, the first iPad was released(Lyons). One year later, on October 5, 2011, Steve Jobs died.Yet his legacy, Apple, continues on. The iPad encompasses many features. The iPad has built-in features and more than 850,000 apps designed to aid a person wherever he brings it. The iPad is easy to carry since it only weighs 0.96 pounds. The physical attributes of the iPad include Retina display, front and rear-facing cameras for pictures and HD videos making the iPad popular in the world today. It also includes a large touch screen and flat design and a four by three displays. The iPad Air 2 is a thinner, lighter, and faster replacement of the first iPad and even has up to ten hours of battery life with Wi-Fi and a Touch ID passcode option. With an 8 -megapixel isight camera on the front and a 1.2 megapixel on the back, the iPad’s camera provides a more detailed picture. For instance, a large amount of employees in the iPad factories has been working excessively after hours. Recently in China, there were two explosions in their iPad factories. One of them killed four people and injured seventy-seven. Li Mingdi, a manager of a Chinese factory that manufactures iPads truthfully stated, “Apple never cared about anything other than increasing product quality and decreasing production cost.” He continued by saying “workers ' welfare has nothing to do with their interests.” Evidence of this is the Apple banners in the factory that read “Work hard on the job or work hard to find a job tomorrow.”
