Current Risk Assessment: How Likely is it to Happen? Strictly applying the recent historical behavior of the YKCC inmates, the breaking of the existing visiting plexiglass is probable; the inmates who orchestrated an escape out of “G” Dorm; the damage to “H” Dorm pipe access; WD1 damage to the bathroom area; “B” Max and “G” Dorm windows; and the loss of maintenance cutting razors; all present the probable likelihood of breaking the plexiglass.…

A former slave Bridget Biddy Mason was held in Los Angeles County Jail due to her owner demanding her and her children to come back to him but she won her freedom and became a nurse at the county jail where she worked until her contract expired but still came and volunteer. Even though there’s no record of what she saw, according to Lytle Hernandez “Biddy undoubtedly watched as Native people arrested on public order charges weekly filled the danked cells of the L.A. County Jail. She would have seen Natives tied to the log out front and sold to the highest white bidder” (Lytle Hernandez, 51). This is important to class because we can see how black and brown people often get pushed to jobs that nobody want but she also witnessed how they sold…

California’s overcrowded prisons are a result of one of the highest recidivism rates in the nation . In order to alleviate stress on correctional facilities and to make them efficient, public safety realignment was passed by the legislation in 2011. The act of the realignment is shifting responsibilities of most offenders from state facilities to county facilities, and the possible changing of the duration of sentences. In 2011, the courts found the overcrowding of the prisons to be unconstitutional because they were not able to fully accommodate the inmates . There is also the possibility that a new approach to addressing recidivism could yield different results.…
Since 1989 big private corporations such as Corrections Corporation of America and GEO have been funneling money into politics with more than $10 million directly to candidates and roughly $25 million in lobbying. These big companies are not the usual suspects of lobby efforts like their counterparts Big Pharma and Big Oil, these companies are the two biggest contributors to the third, silent influencers of American politics, Private Prisons (Cohen). Private prisons take responsibility for sixteen percent of federal prisoners and six percent of state prisons according to the ACLU. With a prison population of 2,220,300 Americans, private prisons are becoming one of the largest industries in the nation (Bureau of Justice Statistics).…
