On 1/6/2017 at 1126 hrs, I was dispatched to Harbour Cay located at 12001 Belcher Rd S #32B, Largo FL, 33733, in reference to an check welfare,
Upon arrival, I made contact with the complainant, Rebecca Katzman, who advised she hasn’t seen or heard from her son for about 2 days and he is worried for his well fare. Kazman advised her son, David Ellis has not been to work also and he has been depressed lately over his recent father’s death. Kazman advised the last time she seen Ellis, was on 1/4/16 at dinner around 1900 hrs. I asked Katzman how his demeanor was, she explained he seemed ok, he was smiling and laughing, she didn’t think anything of it. Katzman advised she has been trying to get into his apartment to see if he was there, but was unable to due to the chain lock on the door. We walked to the apartment to try and make contact with Ellis; I observed the door was damaged as if someone tried breaking in. Katzman advised Ellis did that three weeks ago because he forgot his keys inside his apartment. I called Ellis name multiple times and came back with negative results. I was able to open the door slightly and I observed Ellis keys hanging from the wall, but I did not hear anything coming from within the apartment. While attempting to make contact with Ellis, a neighbor advised they saw him yesterday leaving in his vehicle. I contacted Corporal Osgood, and explained the situation to him; he advised he will be there shortly. While waiting for Corporal Osgood to arrive on scene, Ellis friend Amber Camp arrived on scene attempting to make contact with Ellis via telephone. Camp advised his phone went to voicemail every time she tried calling him. I asked Camp when the last time she heard from Ellis was, she advised on 1/4/16 at 2138 hrs, through the phone. Ellis sent a text message to Camp advising he is feeling sick and he has to go to the Emergency room to be check on. Ellis did not advise on the text which hospital he went to. A few minutes later Corporal Osgood arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with Ellis, I explained to him that maintenance would cut the chain lock if we give them permission. Corporal Osgood told me to contact the maintenance crew to cut the chain so we can check the welfare of Ellis. The maintenance crew member arrived on scene, cut the chain lock for the door to allow us to enter the residence. …show more content…
While clearing the residence I found a white male subject laying flat on his back with a plastic bag over his head. I did not locate a pulse and the subject was cold to the touch and stiff. Largo fire Department station 38 arrived on scene moments later. Paramedic Enthq advised that he pronounced David Ellis deceased at 1300 hrs. No action could be taken to resuscitate Enthq. Largo FD Run #7003062. Corporal Osgood requested Sheriff’s Forensics to come to the scene for photographs.
Upon my observation, Ellis had a dust off can near his right hip and another empty can near his right hand. Ellis had pajama pants, on with no shirt. The deceased had multiple tobacco products and Playstation products on his bed. Ellis showed no signs of disturbance, I was able to identified him as David Daniel Ellis by his DL which was in his wallet beside him.
While searching his rooms for other clues involving his death I found a safe located on the northwest side of the bedroom which contained multiple empty pill bottles which had Alprazolam and Zubsolv in them. Also in the safe was a small plastic bag which contained green leafy substances that appeared to be marijuana, and a pipe. The deceased also had two BB guns inside of the safe. Ellis was in advance stage of Rigor Mortis and showed lividity throughout his back which was consistent with the position he was lying in. He was cold to the touch on his stomach and chest. There were no signs of foul play on the deceased, a visual examination of
