Second Voyage (May 1535) – The Indians who Cartier had previously capture served as guides for him and helped him establish a base and discover new areas in Canada, where he met the Iroquois. He angered them, and hastily escaped back to France where he had to report of finding potential treasures and a route to Asia
Third Voyage – He had now given up on finding a passage to Asia, and now was sent by France to establish a permanent settlement along the Lawrence River. He found what he thought to be diamonds and gold, and started to sail back to France, but stopped
