Carnaval is a holiday lasting five days, usually taking place some time during February. It is a festive, colorful celebration that offers a chance to get out all your “pent up energy”, before the forty day fast Catholics take up known as lent, lasting from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. In this fast, hardcore Catholics don't eat meat for the entire fast, and as the word Carnaval suggests. (Carnaval is formed from a latin word meaning take away or goodbye to flesh). Carnaval is celebrated by bright lights, loud music, festivals, dancing, parades, and practically anything else relating in any form to a party.
