As a student program coordinator for the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE), I have been fortunate enough to receive the opportunity to work with higher education administrators. These administrators have groomed and prepared me for a future in higher education administration. The willingness and determination that I have to contribute has lead me to hold several positions within this well recognized and established department on campus. Current positions that I hold within the CARE department include; “Summer Bridge Transition and Engagement Mentor”, “CARE Guide and Delegate”, “Student Program Coordinator for FGEN2FSU”, “Transition Engagement Academic Mentor”, as well as “Student Support Service Advisory Board Chair”. If a client came in to see me at a social service center needing a place to stay, my first step would be to engage the client by establishing a professional relationship with them. This means making sure that the client understands that while I will care about them, the purpose of the relationship is to work together and equip them to address problems in their life. From there we would establish why they believe that they are seeing a social worker and begin to form a plan from there. Secondly, we would begin to analyze their strengths in their current situation to determine a path of action.…
The day I came to Job Corps, I remember leaving my house while my whole family was crying because I was leaving. The reason why they were crying is because I had never gone away from home before. Even though they were sad, at the same time they were happy because I was moving on with my life to better myself. It was hard for my dad to let me go because I am the oldest daughter and I have never separated from my dad. My little sister and my brother were crying too.…
My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…
When asked the question, “what is your biggest accomplishment in the area of leadership,” the same answer comes to mind every time. It is an easy question for me to answer because of the tremendous impact this experience had on my life. In my junior year of high school, the SkillsUSA advisors repeatedly approached me about the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Western Region Leadership Conference. I didn’t know what it was until they eventually pulled me and a few top students from my school aside and told us about having a “tryout” to see who would best fit to become an officer at the leadership conference. Each of us presented a prepared speech and an extemporaneous speech.…
Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. Two of these careers involve quantitative thinking and mathematical skills, while the third career involves enforcing laws and regulations and working outdoors. Due to my interest in working outdoors I have chosen conservation officer as the best career opportunity for me. The first job I researched is a cost estimator. I researched this job because it involves mathematical skills on a daily basis.…

My career goals are to be successful and to change the current status of women around the world. This would not be easy as many have tried, but I believe that technology will be able to change the lives of many. I developed these goals through experiences with narrow-minded family members that do not believe that I am able to achieve all the I have because I am of the female…
For many people which career they want to attend college to work towards comes pretty naturally like teaching has always been their passion or they’ve always loved the feeling of being in a kitchen. For me however what I wanted to do as a career and attend college for didn’t come as naturally. I explored many ideas like becoming a chef. But I soon found out that I could burn water and therefore cooking wasn’t exactly my strong suit. After many failed attempts at finding a career that would be a good fit for me I started a mission to find out what exactly I wanted to be.…
