Career Conducting Research

Being a first generation college student, I did not know that I could have a career conducting research or that I could have a profession that inspired me in the way that conducting research has thus far. I would like to pursue graduate education because despite my collection of research experiences and my education in statistics and research methods, I know that there is a realm of skills that I do not currently possess that are necessary to conduct higher level research. Study at a university like the University of Tennessee will not only provide me the quality education needed to conduct research but it will connect me to individuals who will help to open avenues previously closed to me. I have always wanted to do something that would change the world and I understand that is a lofty goal, but if I could use my talents and passions to help just a few people, then I would feel accomplished. …show more content…
In this position I could not only conduct the research that I am passionate about but I would have the incredible opportunity to teach and mentor the next generation of thinkers and doers. While I have elaborated on my research experience in another essay question I have spoken little of my experience as a teacher and mentor. Throughout my time as an undergraduate I served in a variety of roles that gave me my first opportunity to interact with other students in an academic setting.
