Legendary musician Bob Marley once said, “Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction.” Bob Marley believed that smoking marijuana opened up a spiritual gateway leading him to become one of the greatest musicians and poets to live. A lot of people other than Bob believe that marijuana can be the answer to a lot of the world's problems. Many cannabis users today argue for the legalization of medicinal and recreational use of marijuana. Marijuana is shown to help with many different illnesses such as chronic pain, Alzheimer's, Polio, Parkinson's, and can be used in nutritional cooking or even making things like clothes and paper. Cannabis is grown naturally on our planet, the plant itself has many uses and the buds of the plant, which are what’s consumed can help with a wide variety of different illnesses. What is marijuana? Marijuana is of the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant is stiff stemmed, serrated leaved plant that is consumed by people all over the world. There are three different subspecies of cannabis, cannabis sativa (Which grows tall and skinny with longer leaves), cannabis indica (which is short and stubby with shorter leaves), and cannabis ruderalis (which is found mostly in Russia and Europe). Marijuana can grow wildly or indoor for a better more potent plant. Outdoors cannabis can grow to maturity in about three to five months. Marijuana grown indoors in the right conditions can fully grow in 60 days. The flowering part of the cannabis plant known as the bud is the part that a majority of people today are after for consumption, but only the female specie of the plant produces flowering buds. Even the leaves of marijuana can be consumed to get a high off of but it’s not as potent as the buds. How does marijuana get you high? There is active compounds within marijuana known as cannabinoids. Deeply rooted in the body there is cannabinoid receptors that can get you high when active. Since the birth of recorded history humans have grown and consumed the cannabis plant. Cannabis based cloths have been discovered in northern China dating back to nearly 7,000 BC. Marijuana has been in use for medicinal and recreational purposes for nearly as long. In central Asia in 2008 over two pounds of cannabis was found by archeologist inside a 2,700-year-old mummies grave. After the marijuana was heavily tested by scientist Ethan B. Russo it was concluded that ancient cultures most likely used marijuana for medicinal, recreational, and divinatory purposes. Marijuana is still widely used today for the same purposes. People use marijuana despite the fact that there is a ban on the cultivation and consumption of the plant nearly worldwide. The United State’s congress had firstly put in federal prohibitions outlawing the use of marijuana for therapeutic and industrial use by the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. Under the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 Congress restated that marijuana and all of its active cannabinoids were listed as a schedule I drug. This means that the government says that marijuana is equally as dangerous as heroin and even more dangerous than cocaine, even though almost 14,00 deaths happened due to heroin overdoses and nearly 7,000 due to cocaine. Studies of marijuana have uncovered over 60 different, biologically active cannabinoids. Many of these different cannabinoids hold different therapeutic properties. These include neuroprotective, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, and anti-diabetic properties. In science today there are over 22,000 published studies and reviews of cannabis and cannabinoids. Marijuana has been in use by people throughout history for many reasons. The main use for cannabis is for a mood enhancer and as a social event. Even though marijuana is usually smoked, parts of the plant like the seeds and stalks, which have nearly no psychoactive effects , can be used in other ways. The ground seeds of marijuana contain a high balance of essential amino acids and fatty substances which can be baked into plenty of foods like bread, butter, and even salad
