Candy crush is a puzzle game where you match at least three of the same candies together, but occasionally you can match four or five candies in a row to increase your score. If you match four candies in a row then you get a striped candy which you then need to match, this gets rid of a whole column or row of candies. Matching five candies in a row produces a colour bomb. You can then swipe it in the direction of the candy that you would most like to get rid of, doing this means that you get rid of all of a particular shaped candy in the grid which is a good way of increasing your score. Progressing through to the next level involves completing the objectives which are different for each level. For example, you may have to score a certain amount of points by the end of the level with a particular number of moves, or get cherries and hazelnuts to the bottom of the grid. If you do not meet the objective, then you have to redo the level until the objective is met. …show more content…

Working as a reinforcer by getting you to complete the objectives of the level (which are different for each level) to progress to the next level, and continuing play. The variable ratio used is the unpredictability of knowing if you will complete the objective to move onto the next level. Working as a reinforcer because you pass through levels enough times for you to justify that the game is fun but challenging, therefore you keep playing as you cannot be sure to pass a level straight away. Another variable ratio schedule is used by changing the objectives for each level, acting as a reinforcer because it is keeping you engaged in the game by mixing up how you play in order to pass the level (Miltenberger

However, I would very much disagree with this sentiment. By giving the player a set list of objectives (or just one), then the creators of the game are simply allowing the player to experience the game in the intended format. In the same way one should watch a film forwards, or read a book from the first page to the final one, games are to be played how the developer wishes. Of course, many games deviate from this norm – for instance FromSoftware’s title Dark Souls. A game that excels in many art forms – music, storytelling, cinematography and visual design, also gives the player huge amounts of freedom.…
