Recently, a lot things like Trump temporarily banned immigration from 7 countries, he also wants to build wall on the U.S-Mexico border makes me thinking about Patrick Buchanan’s essay “Can Diversity Destroy Us?” and “A.D. 2041 – End of White America?”. He mentioned “That America is gone forever. Last week we learned that in the last seven years 10.3 million people, almost all from the third world, entered the United States, more than half illegally.” (Buchanan) Is this one of the reason why president banned immigration from 7 countries and wants to build wall? He also afraid those immigrates will destroy the U.S? However, most people around me are like George M. Fredrickson. He believes diversity makes the U.S greater. I have to say after I read Patrick Buchanan’s essay I felt sad, and I don’t agree with most of his essay. I believe diversity makes our world better. As for these absurd immigration policy, I guess Trump didn’t realize that diversity also makes his life better. Diversity gives him a wife-Melania Trump and a family. Melania Trump is from Slovenia which is a third world country. In “Can Diversity Destroy Us?” it mentioned “And how can we say diversity is a strength, when the most diverse nations of Europe, Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union, shattered into 22 nations as soon as they became free, and Slovaks and Czechs divorced?” (Buchanan) It’s not true. Diversity is not the most important reason why Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union shattered. The writer ignored the political factors. He can’t say like this, just like people can’t say the reason why a student got low score is because she has a beautiful face. The real reason is that she doesn’t study hard. Melania Trump’s example told us diversity can gives people a family. People got more choices. Diversity can makes a person even a country become complete. People like Patrick Buchanan always think immigrates from the third world will bring more burden to the U.S, they will consume the resources of the United Stated. However, it’s not truth. People from the third world are same with people from the first world and the second world. Useless government and leader cause a country backward not citizen. If you give them a chance, they might can do better than people which from the first world. We all know Indians are dominating Silicon Valley. It means the third world people are making a first world country become better. No matter where you from, the third world or the first world. There is no distinction between high and low. Diversity doesn’t mean burdensome. In “Can Diversity Destroy Us” it said “That American is gone forever” and “And when that day comes, what then will unite us as a people?”
