CHAT Personal Statement

The CHAT program provides wide ranging direct services to children (ages 0 –18) through Human Services Agency of Merced County. As stated by “Merced County “CHAT” program”http://www.mercedwib.com/youthcouncil/archive/111407_7b_YC_CHAT_Operational_Agreement.pdf they receive many referrals community wide from schools, law enforcement, child welfare, doctors, domestic violence programs, churches, and the community at large. The CHAT services are especially focused on children who are dependents of the Court and children in the child welfare system. One of the many services that the CHAT program provides is for children whom have been abused in and within the community, which could include a child who is maltreated by a bully within the school …show more content…
This consists of working alongside Child Protective service social workers and foster children and encouraging partnerships with other agencies that support children. Internship and my work experiences has taught me about the values of teamwork and good organization, and given me an overall higher responsibility within my professional career. One of the greatest things that Child Protective services has done is led to me coming into contact with numerous people in the Human social service career and improved my overall understanding of social work. Previous jobs that I have had such as working with Merced County at Worknet have improved important skills that make me suitable for this position; in particular, my work as a youth counselor required perseverance, the use of negotiation during team meetings and the ability to work under pressure in case management, all assets I can put to use at any social service profession for example, working towards group presentations and beyond. My maturity that has been developed through work, and the discipline and determination through studying at CSU and access to a higher education level, would allow me to become a well-rounded
