“Why in the world caused you to kill that Charlie guy?” asked the Texans lawyer.
“Because that Bryon guy hustled us and took $25.50 by the end of the pool games”, Dirty Dave answered.
“ How many games did y'all play to get hustled that much money?”
“We only played like four or five games”.
“Well, that makes some sense but was it really worth killing that Charlie?”
“Yes, I think it really was,but it was all his fault for getting in between us and that Bryon”.
“Ok, so we can say that he died at his will by getting in between y’all and those other guys.” The lawyer said.

In David Sedaris essay, “Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa” he speaks of his and his partner’s childhood life. His writing is effective and meaning full especially when he speaks of his partners fifth grade trip to the slaughter house, the afternoon after seeing the moving about the talking car, and also the importance of their family. Sedaris seem to be envious of his partner’s life as a child though, he makes it clear that he is half way joking, letting readers know this right from the start. When he speaks of trip to the slaughter house he also remarks “Were there no autopsies scheduled at the local morgue?’ showing that he thought it was comical and strange.…

Miss Brill vs ‘The Man’ A first impression is said to be one of the most important moments in a relationship, yet it is most often based on little knowledge of who the person truly is. Likewise, premature judgement is made in both “Identities” by W. D. Valgardson, and “Miss Brill” by Katherine Mansfield. Miss Brill is faced with prejudice as she is alone in the “Jardins Publiques” whereas the protagonist from identities is shot to death because of his ‘false identity.’ One's self-perception differs from reality and often one only learns this reality through the collective perceptions of the world with which we interact.…

Bobbing and weaving through crowds of worried parents, children, and loved ones, my anxiety worsened at the thought that I might not make it off this ship alive. I needed to know some details of what is going on, therefore I’m making my way to the captain’s headquarters. If I tell him that I know his daughter, even if I believe she’s eerie, which I won’t mention, he might feel more open to informing me on what’s going on. Just a few feet away from the captain’s living space, I hear the wails of pain. I could not tell if they were due to physical or emotional pain, but whatever was going on, it just makes me more frightened.…

I still couldn’t believe it had been ten whole years since I had moved from this place, but I just couldn’t get the memories out of my head. I could still feel the classic Norvelt wind blowing across my face calling me out to come and realize that this is where I belong. Well, I guess it was correct because even, after all, I and my family moved to Florida things just didn’t seem to want to go right. As I walked through the neighborhood I could still see everything as it was ten years ago, even though this Norvelt was so new and different in many ways.…

The power of an author enables changes and drastic alterations to occur in any part of the story to any character. Ian McEwan’s Atonement portrays an author within the book that has God-like power when dictating the lives of other characters. Briony serves as the God-like author that shifts the future of Cecilia and Robbie from shattered to passionate by the movement of her fingers on a typewriter. As Briony tries to reach atonement, she creates a story she wishes were true to fulfill her guilt-ridden past and comfort her with forgiveness, but her story only serves to prove she is selfish and seeks reconciliation only to console herself. When Briony tells Lola it was Robbie who raped her, that marks a pivotal moment in the story as…
