Many conflicts arise at this stage where group members become hostile toward one another as different ideas compete for consideration. As Tuckman states, in some cases storming can be resolved quickly (Bruce Tuckman), however, I experienced belligerent and unpleasant arguments within the group regarding task allocation, due to poor communication. As discussed by Bearman, failure to clearly communicate can lead to a temporary loss in a group’s ability to function effectively (Bearman 2013). Nevertheless, we moved from the storming phase at a painstakingly slow pace by negotiating and agreeing to meet together and discuss in person what we were unhappy about and accepting to change it. During the storming phase we also established a leader to help manage conflicts, finalise group decisions and provide motivation to complete our task to the best of our abilities. The performing phase is affected by group member resources such as knowledge, skills, ability and personality trait which determine what members can do and how effectively they can perform as a group (Robbins et al. 2014). Roles that were allocated to certain members also became more flexible in the performing stage as everyone agreed to change roles and modify ideas and I felt the hostility and resistance present in the storming phase was not evident anymore as everyone desired a functional and successful
