“Brown girl dreaming”. The author of the book, Jacqueline Woodson was born on February twelfth nineteen sixty thirteen in Columbus, Ohio. She has three siblings. The book I read was about her childhood. She is an author of more than thirty seven books , She has won nine book awards and has two children.
The book was about Jacquelines life, mostly her childhood under the age of ten.
She told her story through poems. The book begins with Jacqueline being born in Columbus, Ohio. Her father at first wanted to name her Jack after him but her mother chose Jacqueline. She has three siblings, her brother Hope, her sister Odella, and her younger brother Roman. Her parents divorce a few years after she is born.

On the other hand Jacqueline has a hard time meeting new people. During this time there is protesting and marching all around Greenville. Before Jacqueline's mother left for New York she sneaked out at night to march.
In the year 1963, The Civil Rights Movement was taking place. Blacks fought for equal rights with non-violent protesting. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech was spoken. Jacqueline talked about The Civil Rights Movement and how even though it was working whites treated blacks the same way. The Civil Rights Movement started On December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks, an African-American woman, was arrested for refusing to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama.
