Brief Biography: William Clark During The Vietnam War

William Clark was born on August 1, 1770, in Caroline County, Virginia. His mother and father had 10 children; he was the ninth. His family were farmers and owned a few slaves on the land. Clark grew up in the Anglican Church. He was tutored at home, and as a result had an informal education. He had poor spelling but was supposedly well-read. William’s two older brothers were high ranking during the Revolutionary War and wanted to move the family to Kentucky when it was over. When he was 15, Clark and his family moved to Beargrass Creek, near Louisville.
Clark joined the militia when he was 19 and fought in the Northwest Indian War. Throughout the war, he was sent on several expeditions and moved into different ranks.
