The Longest Ride starts in early November where Sophia is attending college at Wake Forrest in North Carolina. She just broke up with her boyfriend and her best friend is trying to cheer her up. There is a rodeo coming to town. Sophia and some of her friends from the fraternity house are going. After the rodeo there was a big party for everyone. She wonders outside and runs into her ex boyfriend she trying to get over. A guy comes to save her from her ex boyfriend and they begin to talk. His name is Luke Collins. They went to his truck and talked for a while and then agreed to hang out again. Later that week Luke calls her and asks if she would like to come out to his farm. Sophia said she always wanted to ride horses so her and Luke rode …show more content…
A week passes and they have been together three to four times that week. Sophia was worried at the beginning if she wanted to start something with him because she wants to focus on college and she might be leaving to go on an internship. She continues talking and going out with Luke. She has even thought about not taking the internship and staying in North Carolina. As Sophia and Luke get farther into their relationship Sophia goes on telling Luke he should quite bull riding just like his mother keeps telling him but he doesn't listen to her. She's trying to persuade him to quit because she doesn't want him get hurt again like last time or just get worse that he is. When he doesn't listen to Sophia, she gets very upset and breaks up with him. They don't talk for a while and he goes to an event to ride again. By this time he's worked his way back to the top and is at the final competition. As all rodeos work Luke goes to draw for his bull he'll be riding. He draws the bull that put him out last time. When it comes Luke's time to ride he gets in the chute and grabs ahold of the rope and the chute opens. The buzzer sounds and Luke jumps …show more content…
I like the part on page 52 where Luke first notices Sophia out on the railing of the arena by herself. Just after Luke notices her he also noticed another guy coming towards her. Sophia turns and seen who the man was, it was her ex boyfriend Brian. Brian began talking to her and Sophia asked Brian to leave her alone. She attempted to walk away from Brian but he grabbed her arm and that is when Luke decided to intervene. Luke walks over to them as also asks Brian to leave and then as Brian refuses again. Then he begins to put his hands up like he's going to hit Luke but as soon as Brian makes a move Luke has him to the ground. Luke asks Sophia if everything is alright then let's Brian up. Brian walks away which was a smart decision. I feel like at this point from seeing how Luke acts that he's going to be that way throughout the book. I also feel in this part that he is a brute kind of guy Like how he handled Brian. I think he handled that well because that situation could have had a more serious outcome. On pages 108 when they really get to talking after Brian had left then Luke had offered to take her back to his truck so they could sit and talk. She agreed and went with him to his truck. I liked this part of the book because I've had always had dream of this happening to me. When I read this part I could just feel how it connected with me.

Through the use of first-person narration, the reader is allowed to stick with Luke and only Luke. The story lets the reader get to know his thoughts thought the whole story. The use of “I” and “me,” on every page of the short story allows the reader to connect and understand Luke’s thought such as, when he says, “I had the thought that I would run down the hill and help the boy. This ‘famished Road” totally sparked me. Its an African tale filled with tradition, and creatures of the spiritual world. The story traces the life of Lazarus, a boy gifted with the power to see and engage in the African spirit world. The author takes his audience on the journey with Lazarus, as walks a very hungry road that is Nigeria filled with poverty, corruption and diseases yet also rich in many other ways. This book was filled with, surreal magical creatures, which made it interesting for me.…

There are many books that are directed towards a younger audience, and are meant to be a quick and fairly easy read. But this does not necessarily mean that an older person cannot enjoy these books, and in fact, the near exact opposite is true in certain instances. Bridge to Terabithia is a fictional book by Katherine Paterson, and although it is a rather simple book to read through, it addresses many complicated themes, and even some that a younger person may not understand. The story focuses on a ten-year-old dreamer, a boy named Jesse Oliver Aarons, Jr.…

Certain patterns emerge, such as a traditional hero on a journey towards self actualization. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer portrays this hero’s journey. The protagonist of the novel, Chris McCandless, hitchhikes to Alaska and walks alone into the wilderness, north of Mt. McKinley. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. He thought that the reality of the modern world was corrupt and uncompassionate, so he went on this journey in order to find a life of solitude and innocence that could only be expressed through his encounters with the beautiful wild.…

At any given moment his mind would buzz with alert – wave its hands urgently and point fingers at something he should devote his attention to and, at the same time, his insides would try to find a secret passage to break loose; ascend from the staircase of his ribcage; shapeshift to the form of the bitter taste of truth - perpetuated on his tongue, but only making it as far as mere goosebumps. Thus, when he first laid eyes on you, all the sirens rooted within his walls exploded glowing fireflies, flooding his mind with reveries of you and him - collapsing the system he took such good care of building and now he's swimming against his intuition's current because it uttered to him to succumb to you. The reality is, he never preoccupied himself with thoughts of love and lust – to such length his heart grew malnourished and prone to rust.…

The Long Journey - Reflection The Long Journey is a satire on the historical event, The Long March which happened in China from 1934 to 1935 when the communists of China walked approximately 10,000km to find a new base north of China. I also wanted the audience to understand sacrifices will be made, but if it is for the better, it is worth it. Symbolism was used throughout the story to symbolise all the aspects of the Long March with different characters and events, but the historical event I chose is not well known to many people, so it was not recognised. The queen ant symbolised Mao Ze Dong, who led the communist on the long Journey.…

Introduction “Journey to the Center of the Earth” by Jules Verne is a novel that truly dives the reader into the center of the earth through striking portrayals, itemized clarifications, and the "eye witnessed" records of the storyteller. On the most fundamental level, Journey is an experience story, a story of the hindrances, experiences, and ponders. The unpredictable researcher Professor Hardwigg discovers headings to the center of the earth in an old book and sets out, alongside his nephew Henry and the guide Hans, to Iceland where they discover the mountain and the pole that permits them access to the profundities of the earth. On a more profound level the story can be seen as man's voyage into himself, continually examining…

Every year in the Spring and again in the Fall I attend the Coxburg Trail ride. The trail ride starts at the old gym in Coxburg and travels twelve miles to a huge field, probably about four acres, where lunch is served and then back around to the gym a little bit shorter way ranging around six miles. Normally, weather permitting, about two hundred and fifty horses and around ten wagons show up to ride. It is so much fun because there are people playing their music, some people have grills on their wagons and are grilling sausage. I have had the same horse since I was five months old, but really just started riding three years ago.…

The Introduction of "The Travels" states that "to western Christendom the world [Marco Polo] revealed was almost wholly unknown." However, in the introduction he mentions the Franciscan travelers we’ve already encountered this semester. Ronald Latham, who wrote the introduction and is the translator of the book, acknowledges the two Franciscans and their journeys, but states that their finding were interesting but not very encouraging. Marco Polo was not the first to travel to Crimea (known as China today) and return. He made himself a historical figure by writing down his findings, which he did for himself.…
