The book of John is the final gospel of the New Testament. The theme ofthis gospel is that Jesus is the Son of God and all that believe will have salvation through Him. The author of this book id John the apostle. John tells us much of Christs earthly ministry, including His miracles, parables, and discussions with His disciples. John also tells us of Jesus' birth, rejection, crucifixion, and ascension. What really sets this gospel apart from others however is how personable John makes it. He speaks to the heart of the believer by the way he presents Christ. He refers to Him as the Word who was sent by our father in heaven and the Lamb who was sacrificed for the sins of others. He also quotes Jesus referring to Himself as "I Am." More so John

One cannot help but love the uniqueness of this gospel. It gives an intriguing, symbolic message to present the story of Jesus. We also encounter Jesus in a way we had never seen prior. He tends to speak in full discourses to address situations rather than speaking in parables as seen in the Synoptic gospels (LTJ, pg. 469). John’s gospel also presents us with information that is not recorded in any other gospel.…

The four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all portray the miraculous work and life of Jesus Christ. They provide historic information about Jesus Christ that Christians believe God used to draw them into a deeper personal relationship with Him. Described in the Old Testament, a great leader who would deliver Israel from control just as King David, came to be and was born of a virgin. “When the New Testament refers to Jesus as Christ, it’s not referring to Jesus’ surname but rather to Jesus’ title as messiah, as king” (Hiles and Smith, 2014). In Colossians 1, Jesus’ true identity is stated as the “image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15).…

The conflict between the Christians and the Jesus Seminar has been an ongoing struggle since 1985. The Jesus Seminar, founded by Robert Funk, originated in 1985 as around 70 biblical scholars set out to determine the legitimacy of Jesus’ sayings (Dart). The Seminar focused on the historicity of Jesus using the best methods of science and literary criticism as it pertains to the Bible. Funk believed that the gospel writers had made Jesus into a “larger than life” figure in order to satisfy their religious desires. The Jesus Seminar’s goal is to rid the historical figure of Jesus from “Christian legend and myth” and to find out who Jesus really was and what he really said (Craig).…

In this essay, I will be talking about what I believe to be true from what Jesus tells us in the Bible, about being the Son of God and how He was here to die on the cross for our sins, showing everyone who He was and who ever believe in Him is save, or healed if they were sick. In this paper, I will be talking about the trustworthiness and historicity of the Gospels. The historical reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ miracles, and did Jesus claim to be God. Did his disciples believe he was God? The accuracy of the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, that is, did Jesus rise bodily from the dead?…

The fifth theme is that the Gospel looks forward to a time when Jesus will be glorified. In John’s Gospel this occurs after his death, though the Son is glorified through the cross (11:4). Moloney summarizes “The glory of God shines forth from the cross, as Jesus makes love known. However, the glorification of the Son takes place through the cross” (Moloney 96).…

John’s Gospel is set out to prove that Jesus Christ is God. God came in human flesh as Jesus Christ to show His people His great works through miracles and teachings. During Jesus’ time on this earth, He used the claim “I AM” to describe himself throughout all His teachings. The Gospel of John shows at least eight different times Jesus says this. The Gospel of John is one of the four Gospels written to tell the story of Jesus’ life. Just as Matthew, Mark, and Luke have given their accounts of Jesus’ miracles so has John. Though these accounts may have their own way of telling what is important to them, the main fact is that these Gospels were recorded so that we may learn more of the word of God. “In order to understand John’s approach to the story of Jesus, the reader must recognize the centrality of the incarnation of the Gospel” (NIB 1905). The book of John begins, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).…

The Word of God, as referred by St. John, is Jesus. The Word of God became flesh to reconcile us to God, to manifest God’s love, to offer a model of holiness, to allow us to share in divine life, and to defeat the devil. He did everything out of his love. His creation was perfect, but it was the temptation of Satan that brought sin to the world. The consequence of sin required a special sacrifice that would save human beings.…

The gospel of John does not contain much of the fundamental information from the other records, evidently proving that his gospel was written for the members of the Church who already possess a basic knowledge of Christ. Thus, by writing to those with knowledge of the Savior, John did not need to include much of the content from the synoptic gospels content- such as the mount of transfiguration and Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness. Instead, John spends more time writing about the Savior in intimate conversations and at private events, like Jesus turning water into wine in Cana. The primary purpose of the gospel of John is to emphasize the divine nature of Jesus Christ as the Only Begotten Son of God in the flesh. The Book of John is thought to be written around 90-110 AD, which seems confusing because John would have been dead at that time.…
