(SIP-A) The bombing that has killed Faiz has affected Nusrat and her decisions. (STEWE-1)Nusrat, along with her decision making skills were affected when she realized her husband, Faiz had died. “There was an accidental bombing raid on the western edge of the city early in fall. I don’t know exactly when. A village was destroyed and several people died. We passed the village about a week later. There was nothing left of it. They said an Amiriki doctor was killed in the bombing.”(Staples 268) This caused Nusrat to realize and truly understand what her parents have been through since she had converted to Islam. This is the primary cause of why she left and returned to her home to live with her parents. This is because of Faiz dying and her mother reaction affected her. (STEWE-2)Nusrat had a dream because she had felt the loss of a loved one, later on we find out that Nusrats husband is lost to an American bomber.”The second figure is Faiz. This time Nusrat knows what to expect. She knows she will have to let him go. His eyes soften when he sees her, and he tilts his head to one side. Nusrat cannot speak, but she smiles at Faiz and mouths the words “I love you.” Their fingertips brush each other before Faiz follows Margret to drift among the stars.”(Staples 231) This was Nusrats reaction in a dream she had when she knew that she had lost Faiz. (SIP-A) In real life there are gun fights just like those in the book so this makes these attacks very realistic. (STEWE-1)There was one example of a gun fight. “We stop, and the explosions grow closer, interspersed with gunfire…”(Staples 104). This is the one example of a gun fight along the road to get to the refugee camp. It showed how even on the road to refugee camps no one was ever safe and a fight might spring upon the middle of any group, and the time this had happened many died in the book (STEWE-2)There are many real life examples that connect with this same scene in the book. In real life as well soldiers shot vehicles and civilians at random in response to a suicide bombing on their convoy. Campaigns in Afghanistan and Iran have resulted in high numbers of deaths for civilians This is a real life example of that scene of “interspersed shooting”(Staples 104) in the book. It was almost the same response and in both cases many innocent people had died. (SIP-B) The bombings in the book are like real American raid missions gone wrong or the Americans having the wrong target. (STEWE-1) In the book Najmah's mother dying was most likely actually just because that Najmah’s uncle was growing poppies and that is the Taliban's cash crop. That means in the book the Americans accidentally, or mistakenly bombed her family by portraying the village as housing the Taliban.(STEWE-2) There are
