"We the people of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility..." (1) I have a question for you. What is a "perfect" union? I suppose that all depends on who you ask doesn't it? To some people in modern civilization a perfect society is exactly as it was in the 1950's, with splashes of influence from the 1800's all the way back to the 1600's (2). Yes, I'm talking about slavery. Now I'm not saying that white folk are running around enslaving Blacks and/or African Americans, but there are some people that wouldn't mind the idea. I find this kind of behavior absolutely repulsive . The point of a society is to grow, change, develop, and embrace new beginnings. Yet, Some Americans find …show more content…
In every other news heading these days you see Black Lives Matter. There are so many existing views on this movement, I wouldn't even be able to cover them all if I tried. Police views seem to be some of the most valued and heard during this movement, since they seem to be a large target once these rallies, unfortunately and all too often, turn violent. Blue Lives Matter is an organization meant to protect the Police officers being harmed during this movement and being falsely accused of "Police Brutality" (3). What about the Black Police officers? Where do they belong? What do they believe? When a riot breaks out... who do they side with? I recently stumbled upon a quote which neither answers or ignores my previous questions. Edward Johnson; Army veteran, law enforcement officer, and African American perfectly describes the thin line he's walked as a law enforcement officer, "As a black police officer, I found myself stuck in a balancing act from the start, like walking on a tightrope right between two perennially warring …show more content…
He states how he felt as though he "belonged to both sides" It is unclear in the article, but it seems as though his family does not exactly enjoy the police, nonetheless a brother, son, or nephew who's always around being able to throw them in jail if he ever deems it necessary. Close your eyes and imagine this, In some alternative society it's against the law to eat meat and as a form of enforcing that law, we have devout vegetarians making sure others follow this rule. Now imagine you and your significant other have secretly obtained some black market meat, really nice juicy steaks, the kind you don't want to marinade because it's such a beautiful cut already (I know this is weird, just get into it). You're sitting down to dinner with your beloved and out of nowhere the doorbell rings! Who is it? You dart to the long window alongside the door and look out only to discover that it is your one and only daughter. Raised in a heavily vegetarian society, she is one of the enforcers and does not know that you are breaking the law. You yell through the door "Just a minute

Black Lives Matter emerged out of police officers murdering unarmed black men specifically, and the justice system not punishing the shooters. Multiple cases like Eric Garner where 8 armed and trained officers choked an unarmed black man to death for the crime of selling dollar cigarettes (CNN). The movement first came about after the George Zimmerman case where an adult white male followed a young black teenager shooting him multiple times and killing him simply because he wore a hoodie. This was a pivotal case and turning point in American society, setting the bar that the killing of unarmed black men was going to be allowed by the justice system and police shortly after started shooting more and more unarmed black men, so Black Lives Matter…

Public interactions with the police have been highly publicized throughout the news lately. Most of the publicity portrays police officers abusing the system and using violence in order to get the public to do what they want. The Black Lives Matter movement is more than a call to action for police brutality, it’s a call for justice to stop the racial inequality that can still be seen today. It all started in 2013 when three women, Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza, created the hashtag #blacklivesmatter after Trayvon Martin was placed on trial for his own murder while George Zimmerman, the man who killed him, was not held accountable (Black Lives). Many people were angered by this, so with the help of cultural workers, artists, and designers, the movement was able to expand beyond a social media hashtag to what you see today, a full fledged civil rights movement (Black Lives). The movement grew even larger in 2014 after Michael Brown, a black, unarmed…

Perry 1 Justyn Perry Bill Morris English 111-09 11 June 2015 The Effects of Police Wearing Body Cameras Anyone who pays even a little bit of attention to current events has to be aware of the increasing unrest between African-American citizens nationwide, and the police that are supposed to protect and serve them. Black people have never really trusted the police, and for good reason. Since slavery ended they have been falsely accused, imprisoned, beaten, burned, and killed in a number of horrific ways by police officers, who in many cases never even get charged let alone convicted of a crime. While there has been significant progress made over the years, this is still an issue that is a huge problem in the black community.…

This goes back to when Springsteen talks about police overreaction back in 1999. On the other had some people believe that there are some good cops out there and this is true as well. Although there are a lot of good cops there are a lot of bad cops that makes the good cops look bad as well. Present cops have created the slogan “Blue Lives Matter” while the African American society has created ‘Black Lives Matter” slogan. There is so much hate and discrimination going on in the world today against both the men and women in blue and the women and men of color.…

According to Keith Gabriel in his essay “The Cynicism of Cops,” police officers view Black Lives Matter as an ongoing threat to the lives of police officers. As a movement, Black Lives Matter began as a response to a perceived bias toward African Americans on the part of police. The controversial shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO, and the strangulation of Eric Garner in New York are the events that inspired Black Lives Matter. In his essay, Gabriel focuses on two former friends of his, both of whom are police officers, and he explains that he and his friends have drifted apart over the issue of Black Lives Matter. According to Gabriel, there are several reasons he and his friends drifted apart.…

Of course not. However, if one looks at existing laws and policies, becomes clear that blue lives already matter. Not only states consistently sought to improve the protective gear and weapons that police officers use, but many states have enacted enhancement statutes that increase the severity of assault charges if the victim of the assault is an on-duty police officers. These laws are an overt recognition that blue lives matter. One solution to that current police problem would be to enact similar enhancement statues that would increase the severity of charges if the actor was a police officer engaging in police brutality.…

In July 2013 began a wake of the “Black Lives Matter” which is an activist movement campaign against police brutality against African Americans. However, there have been some opinion debates I have heard that the reason for the police are shooting down unarm African American is because they’re white and the way they bought up as a child believing that all African American are evil when that’s not even accurate. The Political and community leader also helps to socialize people and influence public opinions. The media are more pervasive and influential towards children to adults, even though, technology has played important roles to influence people’s viewpoints, priorities, behaviors, and opinions.…

In the fight against racial policing, young activists have created campaigns titled #SayTheirName and #SayHerName. Under In the #SayHerName campaign, the activists have tried to spread awareness about the black victims who don’t have a voice to speak for themselves because they’re no longer here. The #SayHerName movement, another movement in connection to the #saytheirname campaign, focuses on police brutality against black women. “Black Lives Matter” Movement & Police Brutality As much as the subjects of “Black Lives Matter” and police brutality are getting stale and cliché, unfortunately it is still an issue that will not be corrected by hushed complaints and sweeping under the rug. However, this problem is not brand new; it has only escalated. Racial discrimination began in the times of slavery and has been an issue since—well forever. The discrimination has been toughest on minorities—like the African-American community. Along with the racial discrimination from society itself, some police and law enforcement figures have often abused their power and taken advantage of their place in the majority race.…
