Characters show varying degrees of blindness and sight. At the beginning of the story, one character who experiences blindness but inner sigh tis Tiresias. Tiresias can see the future and truth, but suffers with actual blindness. Oedipus says to Tiresias, “Don’t hold back your vision.”(6) Oedipus wants him to tell the truth about who killed Laius. Tiresias said to Oedipus and the citizens, “All of you are blind to the truth.”(6) He is explaining how nobody knows the truth. Jocasta has no clue about Oedipus’ real childhood and life until the end of the story. The Herald says to Oedipus, “Polybus and Meropi are not of your family.”(20) Oedipus and Jocasta both thought that those were Oedipus’ parents. Jocasta says to Oedipus, “...I have the right to know what’s going on”(16) Oedipus was worried that he might have killed Laius so he asked Jocasta details of the murder. He told her that he was worried and she wanted to know why. Jocasa does not have any sight of the truth until the end of the
