Now even though Bill Russell couldn’t stop segregation completely, he helped change people’s racial and prejudice viewpoints. Bill William Russell was born February 12, 1934 in West Monroe, Louisiana. Bill was a legendary basketball player and a civil rights activist. Russell participated in several civil rights events including the March on Washington in 1963 and several public speaking events with fellow Browns running back Jim Brown. His on court basketball stats and accolades were unbelievable. (Russell recorded 14,522 points, 21,620 rebounds, 4,100 assists and shot 56 percent from the court). He was second for all-time rebounds, in the top two hundred for points, he averaged 15.1 points and averaged 22.5 rebounds throughout his career.
