Beowulf: A Modern Day Hero

Beowulf is one of the oldest heroic poems that still exists. Furthermore, it is obvious that this poem has inspired authors and screenwriters alike in the creation process of fictional heroes for shows, movies, games, and books. Nonetheless, it is evident that Beowulf has all the classic traits of a modern-day hero. He is brave, even willing to die for a great good, he is abnormally stronger than the average human, and is loyal to his king and guests. In addition, though there are many heroes that embody some of Beowulf’s characters, there is no other fictional character that actually embodies them all. In Beowulf’s case, he first demonstrates his strength by reminiscing the story of him competing with a friend to swim across the channel in a friendly competition. In addition, throughout this story he talks about how he was also able to attack and defend against multiple sea creatures. Obviously, Beowulf’s swimming strength is not possible for the average human to do. This in a way gives Beowulf an advantage over the average human. On the other case with Jon Snow he also shows somewhat of a abnormal strength and god power because he is able to cheat death by being resurrected. It is obviously seen that Beowulf is a leader even if he might have an skeptic here and there. For example, when he arrives in Denmark. The king is very skeptical of him. However, after he defeats Grendel and Grendel’s mother. The king and everyone else seems to see him as a natural born leader. This same thing also happens to Jon Snow multiple times.
