Cloud Computing within the Healthcare Sector Traditionally, there has been an underutilization of technology within the healthcare sector particularly when it came to improvements in the delivery of healthcare. The healthcare industry is different from other industries in three main ways; the industry is highly regulated by governed law including those that protect the safety of patients, …show more content…
Abukhousam Mohamed, & Jaroodi (2012) listed the following as some of the major benefits that can be realized from the use of cloud computing within the healthcare system;
a. Cloud computing use within healthcare can greatly increase patient care. The cloud computing environment provides employees within the healthcare setting with sufficient access to patient data everywhere and at any time. The ability to view patient records from a centralized place leads to quicker decision making that enhances the quality of patient care
b. Another major benefit of cloud computing to healthcare organizations is cost reductions. Cloud computing is especially beneficial to small and medium-sized healthcare organizations since it provides a collaborative economic environment that significantly reduces the costs of computing
c. Cloud computing is also critical to healthcare organizations as it grants the ability to utilize scarce resources. Through the cloud, healthcare providers and practitioners are able to utilize remote medical technologies, data and …show more content…
Qualitative research involves the collection of data that is qualitative in nature with the aim of exploring a particular phenomenon. Majority of the studies in the review of literature have utilized qualitative data approaches with surveys of existing literature being the most common approach in the study of cloud computing in healthcare (Ahuja, & Zambrano, 2012; Bulusu, & Sudia, 2012; Gavrilov, & Trajkovic, 2012; Gholami, & Laure, 2015; Mehraeen, Ghazisaeedi, Farzi, & Mirsheraki, 2017; Padhy, Patra, & Satapathy, 2011). Based on the research questions, the current study aims to collect qualitative data that will shed critical insights into the present state of cloud computing utilization in healthcare. In addition to the fact that qualitative data is useful and appropriate when researching phenomenon where non-quantitative data is involved, the qualitative data collected can also assigned numerical values and evaluated in quantitative
