Decent Essays
I believe the artist of the painting "Beguiling Lore" is promoting the Art Principle, Unity in his artwork. The artist uses a various amount and different Art Elements to create a unified painting. However, the artist seems consistent with using some of the elements throughout the painting. The painting has a variety of colors painted in different line directions. The texture of the painting looks rough and the layering of colors allows it to stand out more. The value of the colors is certainly bright and it has some dark shades. The artist painted a horizontal white line in the middle of the painting. There are strings pinned to the background with an egg. Color: The painting has a combination of complimentary colors that give the piece a warm look. For instance, the yellow and orange provides light to the composition and also add a visual depth to it because both colors reflect the scheme of a peaceful night. In addition, the blue in the sky beautifully portrays harmony throughout the painting, and the black in the background perfectly contrasts with the blue in the sky and the circled white brush strokes…

There are many mediums used throughout the history of art that express artist abilities and thought in their artwork. One of those two works of art is El, Anatsui. The painting I chose was Frank Stella’s “Flin Flon VIII”. It is an acrylic piece on canvas characterized by a mixture of curving and straight lines that interlock, vibrant colors, and an emphasis on the circle in the middle of the canvas. A huge quantity of negative space is present in the painting and the painting emits a smooth texture. The painting is one hundred and eight inches squared, making it one of the largest paintings in the San Diego Art Museum. Its size projects itself on the viewer overwhelming them with its color and size.…

My initial reaction upon looking over Turner’s “Slave Ship” was that it appeared to be a beautiful landscape. The way the sky looks over the ship and the horizon line is really striking and powerful. However, as you start to look down you start to see the reason for the name of “Slave Ship”. Along the bottom of the painting you can see body parts of humans in the water. There are hands and feet, the foot on the bottom right has a shackle still attached to the ankle and there appear to be fish eating at the body.…

Most of his artwork that we viewed seemed to have abstract of nature to the photo. While evaluating the photo the symbols of the dark background, gives the artwork a suspicious message. The artist included these dark creepy looking birds in two of his artwork gave the theme of human nature, especially with birds looking like they are flying away from something. In all six artwork it was a repetition of the color schemes of dark colors. Adding the complexity of nature with the fire, air in the photos help me identify the classical elements of the photo.…

It also used lines to create form and shape. The way the painting was structured allowed different lines to create the shape that was being produced. I believe that these two visual elements worked together to give the painting the feeling of having an actual feather being present throughout the picture. In the painting, color was the visual element…

It is enriched in deep contrasting oil colors such as deep reds, greens, blues, and flesh-tones. There is an almost forced focus with the obvious use of dark and lights (the cavalier is extremely highlighted while his companion is deeply shadowed). From observation, it seems to be your very typical Baroque painting from the seventeen hundredths where colors were dramatically exaggerated to provoke emotion and express passion in extremely contrasting styles, but it also incorporates symbolism, (much like Vanitas still life). There is a distinct distance between the two figures, in which a skeleton is observing the two men. Not only does the skeleton linger above the drinking men, he is also holding, what seems to be, another skull in his hands and an hourglass in the other.…

The field of animation has been one of the most interesting and creative forms of film and its history goes almost all the way back to the beginning of movies. The first example is a short two-minute film called The Enchanted Drawing from the year 1900. It was not entirely animated as it included live action footage, but it was the first movie with animated sequences as far as I am aware. It consists of a man (in live-action) drawing a picture of a man's face on an easel, as well as other objects, such as a cigar and a glass of wine.…

Pietá is an Italian term for “pity” or “mercy;” Pietá is a theme in Christian art that depicts Madonna holding Jesus in her lap and looking at him with lamentation after he has been crucified. This theme of art work became popular with paintings and sculptures in Northern Europe in the fourteenth century and lasted through the nineteenth century (Anthony, Maas). This format was the norm in France and Germany until the sixteenth century, when artists started to place Jesus at Mary’s feet with his head laying against her knees (Lewis, Bonnie). The most popular depiction of Pietá were of just Mary and Jesus, but other figures such as John the Apostle, Mary Magdalene, and others were also shown (Pieta). Pietá was so widespread it became the most heart-rending visual expression of the lives of Mary and Jesus, mother and son.…
