Their most important part of being environmentally conscious is the lifecycle of their print advertising material. The Company believes they have traditionally relied less on paper to deliver their advertisements. The print ads are one of the Company’s most important marketing tools, but their goal is to increase the sustainability and decrease the environmental footprint of these tools to the greatest extent possible through the type of paper they choose to use and how they use it. They encourage the continuing environmental performance improvement of their paper suppliers. Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. have what they consider a “minimum supplier requirement” and a “supplier preference”. This means that the paper suppliers they choose to use must demonstrate that none of the fiber in the paper they supply the Company originates in forests that are illegally harvested or endangered, as defined by the FSC, SFI, or PEFC standards. The Company prefers suppliers who document that all the fiber in the paper they supply is at least "controlled wood" as defined by the FSC standard or the SFI Fiber Sourcing standard. The Company’s goal is to reduce the carbon footprint of their catalogs, inserts and circulars by using lighter-weight paper grades. A hundred percent of the paper used in our circulars is FSC, SFI and PEFC certified. Most of the fiber in the print advertising material is certified and the Company will work with suppliers to continue increasing their certified paper
