I have been fortunate in my career to experience quick promotions and be placed into new job roles but have also set high expectations for my prior roles. From this, my backfills often seek guidance from me on how to complete the workload of my prior role. Often, I am in a new position that requires my full attention and it would be easy to sever myself completely from answering questions related to my prior role. Instead, I always ensure to take the time necessary to help other employees complete job tasks accurately and with quality. Finally, I use my position and influence to achieve results where necessary. My efforts in leading teams as part of the ERP implementation project has allowed current leadership to see my potential for being leader within the organization. As the finance department is undergoing a restructuring effort due to the new CFO, I was recently informed that I am slated for a promotion to a senior level position which will require me to be in charge of two to three interns and entry-level employees. I will need to be cognizant of the comments I make to these employees regarding the organization as they will be looking to me for guidance as they enter the organization. If I portray a negative attitude, they will also portray that attitude and may perform a poor job. Additionally, I must be accessible to these employees and balance competing priorities to ensure that their needs and the organization’s needs are met.
