Becoming An Electrical Engineer

Paving the way for a getter future, and becoming an Electrical Engineer. Many reasons are responsible for this sudden career change. After discussing a ling self-evaluation with my wife, whom I trust more than one, we feel that a change may be needed for our children to have certain opportunities. As a result, I have decided to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering with a primary goal in mind—becoming a Sr. Engineer. I believe now is the right time to begin a new career change. Not only is this career change for me, but for my family (a wife and 3 children) as well. In my opinion, everyone… male or female… wants a better life for their self, but most people tend to want more for their families--being able to provide a stable environment for their family, gives a person a sense of person personal satisfaction. Becoming a Sr. Engineer in the field of Electronics Technology, this career will help myself to accomplish personal goals in life and give my family more opportunities that I can be proud of. Thus, the deciding factors that helped guide me in the direction of a better future and becoming a Sr. Engineer. Currently, I am the co-owner of a small business in Newport, TN. My wife, Brandi Hurley, whom has co-ownership of the business that I’m a part of, together we form Trott-on-Creations. Established in 2010, Trott-on-Creations was created by Brandi and I, to help supplement our income. After several years, we began to do well enough to make Trott-on-Creations our main income, with candles being our main product of sale. Unfortunately, I soon realized that I was not happy with making candles—it payed the bills, but I never really developed a passion for it. My true passion is taking is taking mechanical and electrical components apart and putting them back together, to see how they work. For example, I recall a specific occasion in the fall of 1996. I was a 14 year old teenager seeking knowledge about how things operated inside their cases—mechanical and electronically. The four wheeler I owned at the time was in great working condition. The curiosity that I had developed over time, led me to taking this four wheeler apart, just to see how the inner components of the motor worked. I was fascinated by all the moving parts that had to work in perfect harmony for this engine to operate properly. At that moment in time, I knew, I had found what my curiosity was searching for—working on mechanical components. An Electrical Engineer’s consists of creating electrical devices and components that correspond with mechanical parts. Engineers also need to have a vast amount of knowledge to be able to test these devices and components. Testing components are a major part of their duties, it’s how flaws and future problems are found and corrected. In addition, there are several requirements one has to meet before being eligible for employment as an Electrical Engineer. According to recent article from Jennifer Alyson, “You need a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering,” (Alyson, 2015)to obtain employment in today’s workforce.
