Claudio is basically explaining to the Prince how he had confessed his love to Hero before they had went to war. So this means that this isn’t the first time Claudio and Hero spoke or saw each other. Next, the Prince in later lines describes to Claudio how he came up with a plan to get them together and married, “...I know we shall have reveling tonight. I will assume thy part in some disguise And tell fair Hero I am Claudio” (1.1.315-317). The Prince is trying to get Hero to get her to love Claudio so that they can get married and live happily together. So the relationship betwixt, Benedick, and Beatrice are a smart yet cunning couple, wise yet foolish, old but so young. Now all that is left is Claudio, and Hero their relationship is too young, childish, and immature they had rushed into marriage to quickly, young Claudio is too sensitive when it comes to getting tricked by Don John (The Prince’s Brother), and has slandered his own wife with words of grief and pain. So the ideal couple that I think is Benedick, and Beatrice because they are both ruthless, hard headed, and can be immature or mature at times unlike Claudio, and Hero.
