Be Allowed To Purchase A Gun

Decent Essays
In this paper, I will argue that no one should be allowed to purchase a gun. There will be a lot of people that would oppose this decision because the second amendment gives them the right to bear arms. However, there shouldn’t be any amendment that puts other people’s lives at risk. Some people might even argue that strict background check might be able to lower the crime rate caused by guns. However, this cannot halt crimes in this country. It is possible for someone who has never committed a crime to successfully pass a background check and commit a crime later in their life. It is also possible for criminals to steal guns from others to commit any crime. Many people, including children have been the victims of gun violence. If we ban

The Second Amendment gives the citizens of the United States the right to bear arm. Considering the enormity of this right, a heated debate has ensued on whether this right should be restricted. However, in the interest of public safety this right afforded by the bill of rights should be tightly regulated. This viewpoint has been developed through trial and error, after several mass shootings and high murder rates with a fire arms the United States is rendered no option but to restrict the Second Amendment to preserve the safety of the public.…

With gun control debates emerging as a major topic in the past election and currently in our communities, it is imperative to distinguish the justification for the allowance of guns to remain apart of our society. Michael Huemer and Daniel Demetriou both suggest that individuals have a prima facie right to own a gun and that prohibition of such would violate the right to self defense. Both Huemer an Demetriou offer their own respective conclusions without citing the second amendment. Offering arguments without citing the second amendment is beneficial because typically those who oppose gun control commonly use the amendment as their sole source of justification. Huemer’s and Demetriou’s arguments both offer different and unique reasons in…

Gun control has been extremely controversial in society for years. In the essay “Just Take Away Their Guns,” James Q. Wilson argues his view on stricter gun control laws. He writes, “Legal restraints on the lawful purchase of guns will have little effect on the illegal use of guns” (Wilson, 1994, p.125). He backs up his statement with the statistics that 5/6 of handguns used in crimes are either stolen or purchased privately. With this being said, he displays that increasing legal restraints on purchasing guns will have little to no effect on the use of guns to commit crimes.…

In discussions of the Second Amendment, one controversial issue has been whether the Founding Fathers considered the future use of guns. On the one hand, the federal government argues for stricter regulations towards people who bear arms. On the contrary, the people of the state contend that our rights shall not be infringed. With respect to both parties, stricter gun laws are needed to protect American’s from massacres. Guns were created for one purpose and one purpose only, to kill.…

Society has been split into two over whether or not guns should be banned, but there needs to be a solution where both parties can be happy. Anti-gun advocates present reasoning why guns should be banned. McMahan’s main two arguments of why guns should be banned: one, guns in the community creates a more dangerous environment; and two, the police have less of a power to protect citizens when society has guns (Shafer-Landau, The Ethical Life (EL) 390). McMahan explains that communities are not going to be free of crimes with more people carrying around guns, because criminals will be more prepared, efficient, and quicker to grab and shoot their target (Shafer-Landau, EL 392-392). People with guns will be safer than people without guns, because they do not have a gun to protect themselves.…

In the essay, “Just Take Away Their Guns”, James Q. Wilson a Management and Policy professor at UCLA, argues that legally owned guns are not the problem, in fact the real problem lies with society ignoring the usage of illegal guns. The purpose of this essay is to convey to society that gun crimes can be stopped before a shot is fired, that it does not entitle a huge stack of forms at the local gun store. Wilson effectively argues that legally owned guns are necessary for citizens to protect themselves, reasonable police frisks should be in place to stop illegal gun use before the crime is committed and ultimately guns agitate the situation making crimes worse. The authors credibility and logical appeal are overall effective, in spite of the lack of emotional appeal or connection to the audience. Despite the absence of Pathos, the author conveys an adequate amount of logic, which carries the paper to an effective and persuasive conclusion.…

An incendiary debate has been sparked regarding current gun control legislation in the United States, because approximately 30,000 United States citizens lose their lives to gun-related crime and injury every year (Terror). The question is whether gun control laws should be strengthened to make it harder for potential criminals to possess weapons or kept the same to preserve the rights of the United States citizens. Gun control opponents believe that the answer to this problem is to loosen gun control laws to dissuade potential shooters. Gun control proponents believe that the answer is to tighten gun control laws so that a gun is never put into a potential shooter’s hands. To examine this issue, one must carefully ponder different points of…

It is very clear and stated soundly, that the right to bear arms by the people shall not be infringed upon. Therefore, this paper establishes that gun ownership is indeed an inherent right. The application of gun control measures by the courts, therefore, should be based not only on the first clause of the text of the Second Amendment, but on both clauses, which are separately interpreted. Therefore the decision by certain courts to determine that civilians vacate the right to own guns independent of the state is unfounded and…

Throughout recent American History, the topic of gun control has been incredibly controversial. While many people believe that citizens shouldn’t be able to own weapons at all, many others also believe that due to the Second Amendment, it is a right for citizens to bear arms. But there is a way to compromise so we can make both parties happy in this case, so we could reduce gun-related incidents while still allowing defenders of the second amendment to be happy by expanding background checks, informing the public better, and many other steps. In “Clinging to Guns” by Susan Milligan, she evaluates why it is so difficult to get reforms for gun control due to many American’s obsession with guns.…

Gun control has been a widely debated topic for long time, all over the world. This year, gun control is one of the many important, controversial issues of the United States presidential election. Many seemingly simple solutions exist to conquer this issue, though under intense scrutiny, no solution stands firm as the most logical answer. These solutions seek to lower the amount of people murdered each year by firearms, as the United States ranks as the 11th deadliest country in the world in terms of deaths by firearms. However, one so-called “solution” sticks out: the taking away and banning of all firearms in the United States.…

However, due to the recent events regarding gun violence and an increase in terrorism, the topic of gun control has become problematic for American. When discussing gun control there are mainly two views.…

Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
