However, only animal models are experienced by researchers to figure out the impact of zinc supplementation on serum BDNF levels. Also, the impact of zinc supplementation on BDNF levels as an adjunctive therapy has been studied in human for depression treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the impacts of zinc monotherapy on serum BDNF levels and depression severity in overweight or fat persons.
Methods:
Fifty overweight or obese participants are recruited and divided into two groups and given either 30mg zinc or placebo every day for 12 weeks. At baseline and in the last week, Beck depression inventory II (BDI II) was used to measure depression severity, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to measure serum BDNF, and atomic absorption spectrophotometry to measure zinc levels.
