The battle of yorktown.
In August 1781, General George Washington was informed that General Lord Charles Cornwallis’ army was encamped near Yorktown, Virginia. After Washington discussed things with his French ally, he decided to move away from New york city. He also wanted the chance to beat Cornwallis and his force of troops.
The Yorktown battle was to ensure americans their right to independence. Washington’s french army, surrounded the British southern army under the command of General Lord Charles Cornwallis. The resulting siege at Yorktown forced Cornwallis to surrender and start a serious realization of the independence and peace.
