After reading this chapter, the technique that stood out to me the most was Bandrua’s Social Learning Approach. This approach is interactional, interdisciplinary, and multimodal (Corey, 2016). It uses psychological modeling, mechanisms of human agency, and perceptions of self-efficacy. Also, it helps to promote coping skills for stressful situations. I have successfully stopped it in the past, but after having a lot of stress in my life I have relapsed on this behavior. I have used the Prochaska, DiClemente, and Norcross (1992) model of change as my reference for change from nail biting in the past. I choose this topic because I have had this bad habit on and off for years, but I want to stop doing it completely as I have once before for many years. Nail biting is a bad habit that is usually caused by anxiety or nervousness and also known as onychophagia. Furthermore, nail biting is not just a bad habit it can be bad for your health it can damage your nails, infect your gums/mouth, and can transfer bacteria into your mouth.
