Balanced Literacy Program Analysis

The components of a Balanced Literacy Program contains but not limited to oral language that is used on a daily basis , reading strategies, and writing experiences in preprimary and primary classrooms according to Pearson’s Custom on page 203. This way of teaching literacy has proven to be an effective way of creating a balanced literacy program. In the past as the text book states literacy primary focus was to develop the child’s reading skills through a whole group teaching style, however the new approach focuses on a holistic learning style meaning it doesn’t only focus on reading but everyday skills express oneself orally and writing skills as well. To Character build and teach the children the importance of caring for others and the world in order to gain social responsibility. Teach the adopting of values customs, beliefs and rules so that children learn to respect each whether they are the dame or different via socialization. The social domain is also used for social studies so the children could learn to respect differences, become aware of history and culture and learning to live in democracy according to the text book on page 232. An example of each dimension of the social domain is social competency being able to walk in the hallway at will without infringing someone else’s space by being able to keep ones hands to their self. Furthermore another example is for the children to learn about another country and their customs and practices being able to point out how they are alike and how they are different. The children are able to incorporate social studies and socialization together in one lesson using both skill sets.
