Additionally, not only was the assignment very beneficial, but the parent interview assignment also correlated to Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Standard 1:1, which discusses how the understanding of a student’s language, culture, and family background influences the learning of individuals with special needs. This assignment allowed for participants to research theories, practices, or other important topics concerning autism spectrum disorders. The research assignment correlated with the CEC Standard 2 (2.1; 2.2; 2.3), learning environments. The components of CEC Standard 2 include the effective collaboration between educational professionals to create safe, culturally responsive, and effective learning environments. The standard also discusses utilizing motivational and instructional interventions, to effectively teach students with special needs. Researching ASD topics and approaches allows for educators to have the knowledge and skills to effectively collaborate, and utilize instructional interventions to create the best educational plan for students. The research project also correlated to CEC Standard 5, which examines instructional planning and strategies, as well as, CED Standard 6, which reviews professional learning and ethical practice. As special education professionals, it is our responsibility to be aware of ASD the best, evidence-based approaches and practices to effectively support special needs
