Sculpture are very unique and skilled artist, which can be dated back as far as 800 BCE. To be a sculpture their vision and precision to detail has to be fine. Many sculptures would use similar copies of what they wanted to sculpt others would go of an idea and start to sculpt. An example of precision was Augustus of Prima Porta, was sculpted in 20 B.C the sculptor is not known, but it was found in villa of Livia in Prima Porta thus giving its name. Another notable sculpture was David sculpted by Michelangelo in 1501-1504. Both of these sculptors used marble as there medium. The glossy look comes from the texture of the marble which is soft and very pure. Augustus of prima Porta breastplate shows his power and the details that are really fine. The use in his chisel and mallet to create those characters is astonishing. As for David, Michelangelo paid more attention to form and detail of the body. Michelangelo went back to the Greek theme and paid more attention to form, shape and making David look more like athlete. David and Augustus size are both a major part because the proportions have to be just right. For the size of these statues, the artist needs to make a scale model to get the right porportions with the use of a caliper and a pointing machine. The comparison between these two arts is important to know because, the way they sculpted backed then is how they still do now. Now we it may be a little easier because of technology and machine but the methods are the same. Mostly all sculptuors picked someone inspirational or an ionic figure to pick as there models. David and Augustus were made about 1000 years apart from each other and it still shows the same characteristic. The real main difference between the ways the statue are is that one is clothed and the other isn’t. Both artist used the same materials to accomplish the work and they also had limited resources, so there techniques would relatively be similar to eachother. In art you can learn from the past to use things that you want to use in the
