World Medical Association Delcaration of Helsinki states that human trials should be preceded by tests on animals. Due to the incredible complexity of human body, when conducting researches for potential toxicity, the lives of human volunteers should not be put in danger unnecessarily (Marvizon). Because some of it is too harmful and invasive, some requires genetic manipulation that would be unethical in human being (Marvizon). However, it seems like the drugs that pass animal tests are not necessarily safe. Animal test on the arthritis drug Vioxx showed that it was protective towards the hearts of ice, but caused more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths on human (Mcvey). Knowing that animal testing plays big role in current medical breakthroughs, we would be stuck with the medications and treatments that we currently have without it. That means there would be no hope of facing big medical challenges we have nowadays, like cancer, AIDS, and etc. These diseases are not something that we should be careless about, because there is no guarantee for us to be free of these illnesses. Yet, we cannot also neglect the fact that animal testing is cruel and inhumane act. We are taking away animals’ rights to meet our needs just because we are more superior to
