Atticus Finch used ethos, pathos, logos, anaphoras, and rhetorical questions in his closing argument to make the jury think about their opinion based on the evidence. He uses these to persuade the jury to believe that Tom was in fact innocent. He appealed to the jury's sense of reason, logic, emotions, and the overall appeal of the speaker or writer himself. He makes the jury think about the facts, and think about the credibility of Bob and Mayella side of the story. Even though the facts show that Tom Robinson is innocent the jury still found him guilty.…

One importing quote in the story that helps this thought is at the end of the trial, even though he lost the blacks in the back of the court stand up to respect him for what he did. Another prominent about Atticus is his big play in the father figure for Jem & Scout. This may sound insignificant as a hero thing However, with Jem & Scout not having mother/mother figure( excluding Cal)this can put a strain on both kids but Atticus is very responsible in taking care of the kids. One quote is when Atticus rushes home to save the town and kids from the mad dog which must have looked cool in Jem and scouts eyes.…

Lawyer Atticus Finch, in his closing argument from the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee stated in the Tom Robinson case discusses racial prejudice. Finch’s purpose is to convince the jury, race has nothing to do with Tom Robinson’s innocence. He adopts a moralistic tone in order to persuade the jury Tom Robinson is innocent. Finch furthers his purpose by effectively employing rhetorical devices to inform the jury to put aside their differences and make the choice in which can set an innocent man free.…

Atticus is respectful to everyone, even when he disagrees with them. When most lawyers argue their court cases they can be quite mean. They do anything and everything they can to get the verdict they want. While Atticus still argues his case and does everything he can to persuade the jury in his favor, he does it with kindness and respect. He does not yell at the witnesses or try to intimidate them in any other way.…

For instance, he said to Jem “You just hold your head high and be a gentleman”(Lee 115) due to the fact that Mrs. Dubose is a very old lady but can be immoral at times. the second character that had a big influence on Scout was Atticus. He wasn't the first person to help Scout's coming of age, but he was nonarguably the biggest influence on Scout. During the Tom Robinson case, Atticus gave Scout a trick to tell if the witness was telling the truth or lying. On page 257, he said,"That one way to tell if the person is lying or telling the truth is to listen instead of watch". This quote is significant because he teaches Scout how to be a good listener in various situations.…

In To Kill a Mockingbird, there is an obvious theme of people are not always who they seem to be. I will evalutate Atticus’s and Mrs. Dubose’s outward appearances and who they actualy are on the inside. Jem and Scout often look at Atticus as old and feeble. He is a lawyer who works in an office, unlike all of the other dads who play football, drive trucks and go fishing. His only hobby is reading.…

Harper Lee used this specific conflict, through Atticus and Bob Ewell’s interactions to establish that the barbarians maybe known for their fearlessness for diving head first into battle but the peacemaker can stop a war by using their brains because she wanted us to see what would happen when we lose our self-control, the rage consumes. That is exactly what happened to Bob Ewell when he attacked Atticus’ kids. Since his “last shred of credibility”() got stripped away from him by Atticus in the trial, Bob has not put his rage toward only him, but “ has a grudge against everybody connected to the [Tom Robinson] case” such as Helen Robinson or Scout and Jem() . Although Atticus had put too much faith into human nature and he said that “he’ll…

A single story is shown throughout the book To Kill a Mockingbird through three characters which lives or moments are perceived naively. Tom Robinson single story is based upon race, Dolphus Raymond is based on lifestyle, while Atticus Finch story is based on his consciousness.
