Unlike most other people in Maycomb, Atticus respects people of color and does not treat them badly. This quote also shows that Atticus is very strong minded and other people’s opinions don’t affect him. He understands that it shows how poor a person if they call people bad names and teaches this to Scout. This next example is an example of how Atticus uses his and Maycomb’s moral codes in the court. She mentioned that he wearied out the most credulous of readers and was similar to a human pez dispenser. What I took from this was that she believed that Atticus and his moral codes and honesty and loyalty was not believable and was sort of sugar coating the story. I disagree with this. I feel like Atticus was an amazing addition to the story and the majority of what was written about would change without Atticus. The way his children perceive the world and his impact on Maycomb itself was hugely affected by Atticus. Yes, I do agree that there are very few people in this world who have such strict codes and is so honest and loyal, but I feel like Atticus being this way helped show that there are also good people in this world. What I mean by good people is people who does not treat others badly and is respectful to everyone. He has used his kindness and patience to help bring up his children as well.
