Essay About Classroom Observation

I’m currently observing a middle school in XXXXXX County. The school is very diverse, compared with other schools. The school is not to big or too small. The Spanish class consists of a total of 20 to 30 students each period. There is a total of 6 students placed in one group. Students are given a lot of tutoring opportunities during advisory and after school. Students during class asks plenty of question, and the teacher hears attentive to their concerns. The teacher uses educational activities where students participate by raising the fastest their hand. This makes it competitive between students because they all try to be the first one and win between one another. It is a competitive and healthy environment. The teacher during class gives …show more content…
The majority of students from the class talk and follow teachers instructions. The students know that the authoritarian figure is the teacher. Students obey teachers instructions, if anyone has a question they raise their hands and wait for their turn. Some of the students when it 's time to work in team, some work by themselves. This can be a problem because student learning and study habits are low and student’s ability to want to learn might be because the student is unmotivated or finds the subject to be not interesting. Another of my observation remarks was when the teacher asked his students. Why is it important to learn Spanish? Why do we need to learn it? Some students raise their hand and answer the questions. A student says that we learn Spanish because we are close to the border other say because one might need a job that requires to be bilingual and finally another one says that it 's important to know spanish because in the future they might travel to a latin american country where they only speak spanish. The teacher wants the student to see the purpose of why is important for them to learn spanish. The teacher listens to his students and sees the attitudes of his students. The teacher makes sure the student knows the purpose behind it. It is not just a requirement it 's important and will be useful in the

Education in schools has long been a heated topic, especially in regards to what its purpose is. On one hand, some, such as the ACSD Committee, argue that education’s purpose is “to provide for the fullest possible development of each learner for living morally, creatively, and productively in a democratic society.” However, others identify a far more critical purpose of education, such as that of Jean Anyon. Anyon theorizes in her article “Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work,” that the function of our educational systems is to uphold the structure of today’s society that keeps the working class majority oppressed and its top 1% superior to the working class through the way the curriculum is taught. As someone who has been in school…

Within the city of Corpus Christi, there is evidence of economic disparity. I discovered this through my experience with the Junior Achievement (JA) program, and through data collected and observations made on my assigned school and its neighborhood, and of other JA schools in the city of Corpus Christi. All data and observations were collected to show comparisons between each JA school. The information found is valuable because it is important to know about both the physical side of a community and the economic side of a community, and how they compare to each other, as well as how they compare to other communities within a city. Junior Achievement is an organization dedicated to educating young children about branches that deal with economics,…

The teachers I observed at the lower grade levels of first and second grade used Core Curriculum. These teachers followed specific guidelines in their teacher’s guide books to help them schedule activities and lessons for the week. I observed Math and Social Science.…

This year the sixth grade students boarded the plane to Middle School. For the first time, the sixth grade students had to be able to do many things that they were not used to doing in fifth grade back in Elementary School. Some of those things include being able to open a combination lock, being able to get to classes on time with a four minute passing period, and they had to manage nine different classes throughout the entire school day. Also, the sixth graders did some really exciting things this year such as mummifying a chicken in Social Studies. Throughout the school year the school held a couple pf parties for just the sixth grade students to enjoy.…

In all of my time of attending Homedale Middle School, I have witnessed many groups of students more increasingly each year. I supposed that each year I become more aware and observant of the life around me--specifically, others’ lives. Some cliques I see only outside, playing football or staying far out into the fields. But others I see every day, chatting in class, eating together at lunch, or even rough-housing in the hallways between periods, which causes chaos for everyone else and blocks our path to class. Even though this is the case, it is easier to identify certain types of groups at lunch.…

In this class, we have studied why somebody does what they do. The study of psychology is to attempt to put those pieces together. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…

This semester of observations was very beneficially to me, and made my decision to become a teacher clearer. I observed in a 3rd grade classroom at Meadow View Elementary School, and witnessed the true life of a teacher. I saw some things I agreed with, and some things I did not agree with. My class had 21 students, but Meadow View Elementary School does team teaching, so overall I observed about 40 students. During my 50 hours of observations, I was able to relate experiences in the classroom to content I learned in the ED 401.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…
