Taking notes is never an exciting task, but since it’s forced upon us, it’s been facilitated to help future generations be as successful as possible. With these new accommodations, come options such as computers, notebooks, tablets, and videotaping. While studies have shown that more information is retained when writing by hand, I believe that typing notes saves time in order to write to most possible to be able to go back and reread and study. I agree with the statistics about taking longhand notes, but also that I could save time and reduce pressure by typing everything. When it comes to reading, which is a solemn activity, I prefer a physical book as opposed to downloading one online. Reading an actual book, in the flesh, is a right of passage. …show more content…
In “Attention Students: Put your Laptops Away.” the author is able to provide social proof that hand-written notes allow students to retain and memorize more material. The use of these personal examples grab the reader’s attention by bringing them to the real world, where they can all relate because they all have to take notes, or have had to. It’s interesting that after accommodating these tests and assignments to help succeed those taking online notes, the ‘old fashioned’ longhand writers continuously got better results. If I personally have the option of taking notes on a computer, I would switch between the two depending on the information. Because I’ll be able to retain more information by writing them out, then that would be my choice.
