The “Gibraltar” of the Pacific (also known as) Pearl Harbor was the headquarters for the United States Pacific fleet from the years 1899-1941. This monumental place experienced one of the most devastating attacks in United States history which left them no choice but to join World War II. But, did they really have a choice? In early January 1941 the United States Ambassador to Japan sent an urgent message to the U.S warning them of a surprise attack to pearl harbor. Who was responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbor? More importantly was America persuaded by important figures of the country and other countries to use nuke on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war?

Chūichi Nagumo was born in 1887, in 1908 Nagumo graduated from IJN Academy (Japanese Naval Academy) and ranked #8 out of 191 cadets. Nagumo served and protected the, Cruisers Soya, and the Niitaka as a midshipman. By December 15, 1917 he was assigned his first command, a destroyer. A few years later in 1920, Nagumo graduated from Naval College with a specialty of, Torpedo, and Destroyers tactics and was promoted Lieutenant Commander. Upon his graduation in 1920, Nagumo was assigned mission to tour and study naval warfare in Europe and the United States. When Nagumo returned to Japan in 1929, he was promoted to Captain and later on served at the Naval Academy. Nagumo and his Army peer General Saito attempted to defend Saipan in the Mariana Islands against the American juggernaut. On 6 July during the last stages of the Allied conquest of that island, Nagumo committed suicide for his failure to hold Saipan. His remains was later found by United States Marines in the cave where he spent his last days as the commander of the Saipan defenders. As years went by Nagumo ranked higher and higher, but by WWII he was already a Japanese Admiral in the Imperial Japanese Army. Although The United States received many messages from The U.S Ambassador to Japan, and Japanese spies, they probably thought no one would be that dumb to wage war against them, thats why they thought the messages were hoaxes.
