Athletes Need More Clories Than An Average Students

Why do athletes need more calories than an average student? How is the time involved with eating a healthier lunch? What does it take to pay for this expensive lunch program? Some students have already brought unhealthy foods to school and others, sometimes go off campus to get junk food. Consuming junk food helps some students have the energy to get through the rest of the day and others use it as a filler before practices and games that are after school. Although junk food is bad for people, it should be made available in schools because athletes need the extra calories before practices and games, children need more time to eat a full meal because some resort to junk food due to not having enough time, and the school lunch program is too expensive for schools and students alike. …show more content…
US News reported that there is a calorie cap on all snacks except the ones used for bake sales, etc. Most students will see little to no impact from the “Smart Snacks in Schools” regulations. Sandra Ford, Director of Food and Nutrition Services for Manatee County School District in Florida, estimated that her district would lose about $975000 a year if the district eliminated all items that don’t meet these new regulations. Although these snacks have lots of calories and can be unhealthy for most, calories provide energy for physical activity which means athletes need to consume more calories than the average person. Therefore, schools should not be worried about how many calories are in the snacks that the students
