Athletes Are Not Overpaid

Athletes are definitely not overpaid in my opinion. First of all, they obviously earn it, I mean, not just anyone could get in the NBA or NFL. They also have a surprisingly short career. So they need to get paid a lot to be able to save their money for the rest of their lives. Finally, when they are playing in the pro leagues, they are prone to having lots of injuries. As I said before, athletes are definitely not overpaid. First of all, athletes are definitely not overpaid because they honestly earn it. People like Lebron James and Magic Johnson who play basketball are awesome players who are amazing at basketball. So, they earn the money they get paid by entertaining people who watch the games everywhere around the world. Which means all the money they earn, they earn for a reason. They are very talented and amazing at what they do. Second of all, athletes like these people have a very short career to play and earn money. So, when you think about it since they have a short career they need to earn more money to last the rest of their lives when they are retired. Their careers are usually five to seven years at the most so if they get in the NFL at the age of 25, they will be retired around …show more content…
The passage that said that athletes are overpaid says that even though athletes do get lots of injuries there are plenty of other jobs that are as dangerous. But, there has been times where a football player got so many injuries he couldn’t even open a water bottle. They also get so many injuries, and not just small injuries, that they need their money to pay for the super expensive medical bill from the hospital. And there are so many more injuries in sports than other dangerous jobs out there. So, since they are going into their next game knowing they might get a really bad injury, they should really get all the money they

Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. As Rebecca Zissou states in the article, “Fair Play: Should College Athletes Get Paid?” "Many top players receive tuition, books, tutoring, housing, meals, clothing, elite coaching, medical care, travel expenses, and career counseling. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

I am personally a collegiate athlete and knows what an athlete goes through. Players shouldn’t get paid millions of dollars like professional athletes, because why would players go on to try and play professionally. On the contrary they should deserve some type of revenue whether it's for clothes shopping, take someone out on a date, gas money, etc. For example that’s the same thing as me asking my friend to do something for me and he does all the work while I sit back and relax.…

College Athletes Should Not be Paid Professional sports teams are paid for their performance, but college teams are not. Many are at the schools because of scholarships. Besides, this what makes them different than professional players is, they are younger, not as experienced, and they should also be trying to get an education. That is what makes them different the whole of trying to get an education. Education is what college is for not sports.…

College athletes might work their tail off, they might put a lot of time into their sport but that does not mean they should get paid. I do not think college athletes should get paid for three reasons one they are already getting paid, two if they were getting paid they would not focus so much on their education, and three if college organizations were paying their athletes they would not be able to pay for the athletes education and other stuff they provide.…

Many people may or may not believe players are valuable enough to pay them. College players definitely do enough to get paid considering they are the reason most of the time that the team wins. Jared Walch went to the University of Utah and is a writer for USA Today and he writes how sometimes athletes deserve to be paid because of their contribution to their programs (Walch). Players choose to go to a school over other schools because they enjoy that school and want to see that team succeed not any other team, so they work hard to try and win games for their team. Jared Walch who is also a writer for the Daily Utah Chronicles writes on USA Today that performance does not guarantee a paycheck, so just because someone is good does not mean they should be paid big bucks (Walch).…

“People complain that professional athletes get paid too much, but what they don’t understand is that we need a lot of money because we spend a lot of money,” is a quote from Patrick Ewing, a famous NBA star. His quote directly shows that athletes are being paid too much. For example athletes get paid a great deal more than the working class. They also get paid way more than surgeons, who save lives. There are also orphanages who barely make enough money to keep the kids safe.…

For the example of a firefighter and a police officer, they should be paid as much as footballers should be, because they are true honorary heros. Police officers are paid to protect and serve, and firefighters are paid to put out fires. Both of those things are very extraordinary to do. For footballers, they are just paid to kick a soccer ball into a goal which is way too much money as a fact. People that have jobs that save many lives almost to risk their own lives should be paid as much as footballers, but not overpaid.…
