Qualitative research is a form of investigation whereby the researcher endeavors to understand a phenomenon or a reality within its contextual setting (LoBiondo-Wood, G., & Haber, J., 2005). The results of qualitative research are descriptive rather than predictive. The demands of caregiving directly burden family caregivers and can lead to medical conditions like depression, anxiety etc.
Purpose
To understand the stress experienced by the family caregivers of people living with Dementia and the probable coping strategies.
Research Question
What are the stressors of family caregivers for people living with Dementia and what are their probable coping strategies?
In conclusion, having a person describe their experience/behavior involves them in the decision making by considering their experiences, preferences, needs and satisfaction (Tripp-Reimer & Doebbelling, 2004). Therefore, by developing this problem statement, purpose, and research question, I believe that qualitative research would reveal the target population’s range of experience and perceptions of this practice-based issue.
