Throughout the clinical day, I found myself critically thinking about numerous situations. A situation that involved critical thinking, although it did not comprise of skills or competencies, focused on therapeutic communication and relationships. The situation involved a resident who speaks very softly and disorganized, causing most staff and resident to ignore his voice. I had witnessed this resident that past two clinical days, but never really took the time to speak to him. Today, a nurse asked my partner and I to take this resident into the dining hall for lunch, assisting him to the correct spot and preparing his food. After assisting the resident to his seating, the nurse informed me that he would attempt to escape the dining room, if a staff member does not sit with him. Although I knew other tasks needed to be done, I thought about how I could personally assist this resident, as I wanted to provide the best patient outcome.
