Regicidal Macbeth and Assertive Lady Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, It follows the story of the royal general Macbeth and his rise and fall of power. Macbeth was prophesied to become king and did everything in his power to become and stay king, but ends up dead. Before Macbeth killed the king, he was pushed by his wife to kill him. Lady Macbeth, once she found out Macbeth was to become king, pleaded to the spirits to give her strength to do the things women usually do not do. When the story first has her in any of it, she is reading Macbeth’s letter and then is calling on some sort of spirits to make her a fierce woman. She then, with her new found strength, starts to plot the death of the king. When her husband comes home, she pushes him to kill the king. Macbeth was having second thoughts of killing the king, but no Lady Macbeth’s blood lust, most likely thanks to the spirits, Demons, took over and made him husband kill the king. She kind of has a redeeming moment when the blood on her hands causes her to not be able to live with her self and commits suicide. These differences and similarities of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth show how human needs and the lust for power can cause good people and bad people to go down terrible paths. The contrast of these two show how they both end up getting what they deserve for their actions. They both have their good sides, except Lady Macbeth, and bad sides. Macbeth was a good man till his evil wife made him jump ship into the dark side with her. Lady Macbeth, from what we were just shown, was a bad woman and was terrible for turning her husband. They are both pieces of work and both ended up dead, so they weren't that
