Asb President Research Paper

My position in student government has always asked me to think critically and creatively. In ASB, associated student body, we create events, dances, and pep rallies for students in the school to enjoy. I have been in ASB since 9th grade and I have always been a dedicated member. I was applied for ASB as class president and was elected by my class to that position. I held the position for two years and then became a director of extracurricular activities for one year. I worked hard and strengthened the necessary skills to become ASB president which I ran for and was elected to. Every year in ASB we try something challenging to learn critical thinking and problem solving skills along with public speaking skills. A challenge the ASB advisor gave us this year was to find a problem in the school and fix it. It was easier said than done. My partner and I found that a majority of students in our school may be college ready but don’t know a lot about it. We decided to fix this by increasing the amount of college information available. My partner and I surveyed students to see if the researched college on their own or made a list of colleges they are interested in. Over sixty percent of students did neither. …show more content…
I conducted interviews with counselors, teachers, principals, and staff. With the interviews I found out the history of the problem and how staff, counselors and the administration tried to fix it. I also had interviews with students at my school and students outside of my school to get their perspective on the problem and what they think may be causing it. My partner and I researched the problem online and how it affects other schools. Our solution to the problem was to create powerpoints about careers and colleges to send to students. Although our problem is about colleges, we don’t want students to be confused on what to do in life after college. We would get freshmen and sophomores focused on careers so as juniors they can find a college to match their career. Students would use the information we give them to fill out a worksheet for both careers and colleges to save for later use. We recognized that some students may not be interested in doing this so we decided to schedule an assembly in February where current seniors and former alumni give their experiences, stories, and regrets while preparing and applying to college. We are hoping that this will encourage students to do the worksheets and dedicate more time to preparing for college. We also wanted to have a big college fair in May so students can collect more college information there. We don’t want to overwhelm them with work where they become bored or tired of it so we will make this something they can do in advisory in the morning to get it out the way. This solution plan will be executed next semester. The point of this solution is to get students the information they need so they can use it when they are seniors. After our documents and plans were completed, we constructed a powerpoint and presented it to a room of students, teachers, administration, and staff. The presentation required us to combined character and intelligence. When Dr. Martin Luther King gives a speech in front of thousand and thousands of people, he too combines intelligence and character. Like him,

In seventh grade, I was a seventh grade representative and in eighth grade I was president of my school. I knew I had to start off small, so that I could achieve greater heights. In high school, freshmen and sophomore year I was class secretary, junior year I was co-class president, and now I am Senior Class President. I learned from my student government career that it starts off with just a small step to fall deeply in love with something that I spent most of my life with. Student government taught me to take risks by initiating change at school because it starts with me.…

Are Colleges worth the Price of Admission? Every parent wants the best for their children, and they want their children to go and study in college, in order to get a dream career. Now days it’s not a cinch as the costs of colleges are rising, and quality of education is dropping. Throughout the presidential project, the lack of preparation led to the downfall of my campaign. You see at the beginning I believed I had a strong committee, individuals who would put in the work, but it turns out being one of the smartest people in the class you get bombarded with people looking for an easy A. I should definitely have chosen my group better, that way I wouldn’t have been left alone to work on the project. This is something I have started to work on, no longer do I have a problem letting individuals crash and burn in my group, I do my set jobs and they're expected to do the same. Looking at the content I chose I believe I could have focused on differing topics, given my audience is a normal set of high school students,…

One problem that I have found a solution to is growing the amount of students from diverse backgrounds to take Advance Placement courses. Around twenty-six percent of my school consist of minorities; however, only two percent of those minorities participate in AP courses. I talked to some of my peers who I felt we able to handle the rigorous course load and explained to them how taking these classes will be beneficial. Many of those students will be first-generation college students and I knew that colleges would like to classes that will be challenging.…

Argumentative Essay: Flaws of the Education System There are inherent flaws within the education system which we use today pushes students far beyond their limits and it lacks emphasis on practical skill. Schools create a needlessly high stress environment basing their future upon numbers and grades rather than teaching and refining their practical skills. Lots of potential is flushed out of the curriculum due to college and high schools insisting that students must be able to juggle advance courses, maintain high unweighted GPAs, and participate in extracurricular activities in order to succeed in the future; hence, repairing and recognizing the inherent flaws of the education system is crucial to ensure that students earn the future that…

If we were to label the current generation of teens and young adults, one word that comes to mind is trendy. Perhaps we have been doing it forever, following trends and setting them. It is now, however, that we recognize trends for what they are, and strive to set new ones. A trend that has been steadily rising for hundreds of years is the decision of attending college. When my father completed high school in the early 80’s, it was not expected of him to go to college because he already had his own construction company in Long Beach Island.…
